While I was quilting my UFO for last month, I went ahead and quilted another one–My Holiday Road (which is UFO number 5 on my UFO Hit List). Holiday Road was my mystery #23 on my MysteryQuilts4Military Yahoo group. A true scrap quilt, it contains everything that was on my cutting table, or could easily be dragged out and cut up. It will be sent to South Carolina Quilts of Valor next weekend.
I had such fun quilting Holiday Road! I did a freehand pattern that I’ve been doing for a long time. I don’t know if it has a name. I’ve been calling it Rooster Flowers–because it kind of looks like a rooster head, but also a flower. This time I found myself making not just small and large rooster flowers, but sometimes I made the stems skinnier and bent–more feather-like. I used a variegated thread. I have no idea where it came from or who the maker is. However, since I’m also trying to make a dent in my incredibly large thread collection, I just picked up something and hoped it would be enough to finish the quilt. It was. And I have a little left over which I will use in piecing a for a bit.
I am following Judy Laquidara’s (www.patchworktimes.com) UFO challenge. March’s UFO to work on is UFO number number 1 from my UFO Hit List. Some of you may recognize RRCB–that’s right Roll, Roll Cotton Boll. It’s not that I don’t want to finish that quilt, but I did think that by putting it #1 on the list, it likely wouldn’t be drawn until later in the year. I was hoping to have more time to let that one gel so I could figure out how I wanted to quilt it. I guess it’s decision-making time!
Beautiful. : )
Can’t wait to see what you do with #1 UFO selection RRCB – you are a very good quilter. I absolutely do not like to quilt my own on my domestic machine – it puts me in a bad mood, so I send them out to save my sanity. I am sure you will come up with something nice.
